COVID-19 protective equipment for the Sprinter City
New: protective driver’s cabin, driver’s partition as a retrofit and contactless hand sanitisers.
Mercedes-Benz and safety go hand-in-hand. This is especially true during the COVID-19 pandemic: three new items of equipment reduce the risk of virus transmission for drivers and passengers on-board the Sprinter City.
Contactless hand sanitisers.
Protection against infection already starts upon boarding the compact regular service bus: hand hygiene in the bus is extremely important. Mercedes-Benz therefore offers contactless hand sanitiser dispensers for the Sprinter City 45 and Sprinter City 75 models. They are positioned in the entrance area, where they are fixed within easy reach onto the standard driver's partition wall – here already, it's possible to reduce the potential for contagion. Plus, contactless dispensers mean that the user's hands never need come into contact with the devices. The sensor-controlled dispensers are available ex works for new vehicles, as well as for vehicles of the current City generation as a retrofit solution.
Protecting the driver against droplet infection.
City bus drivers are often in close contact with their passengers. In the current COVID-19 pandemic, the new full-width glazed drivers’ partition offers them additional protection. To avoid direct droplet transmission resulting from contact with passengers, Mercedes-Benz has developed two professional, glazed protective barriers for drivers of both the Sprinter City 45 and the Sprinter City 75.
New vehicles can be optionally equipped with a protective driver's cabin. It uses large components made of safety glass and features a lockable door to the passenger compartment as well as a lockable service hatch for ticket sales. It also minimises the exchange of air between the cockpit and the passenger compartment. Alternatively, if they were ordered without it, the driver’s protective partition can be retrofitted to the latest Sprinter City generation vehicles. Made of the same clear safety glass, it offers drivers a good barrier against droplet infection from the passenger compartment.
